What's old is new again in kitchen gadgets and this wall-mounted beer bottle opener is no exception!

With all things retro and old-school back in vogue, especially when it comes to kitchen gadgets and accessories, you’ll be happy to know that the beer drinker/aficionado if your life has a new toy all to him/herself. Steam Whistle Brewing, the producers of Canada’s “Premium Pilsner,” is offering beer lovers out there a handsome, vintage-inspired wall-mounted opener.

Great Gadget: Magnetic Backed Bottle Opener

The opener is fitted with a magnetic back so that you can slide the green and silver bottle opener on your fridge, or wall mount it in the backyard, rec room, garage, cottage or any place you choose to have the bottle opener within refreshment’s reach.

If you think this is strictly kitsch and not terribly necessary, Steam Whistle Brewing President Cam Heaps asks you to think again! “Our beer drinkers appreciate the freshness that comes with the old fashioned, non-twist cap,” he asserts. A recent, informal poll amongst beer drinking companions (both leisure and more serious fans) proved Heaps correct. The resounding response was that yes, there is something crisper and better about non-twist cap beer. Maybe it’s all in the packaging?

Whatever the explanation, this retro beauty with a handy “cup” at the base to collect all of your discarded caps is sure to become a collector’s item one day soon, and it’s the perfect holiday or birthday gift for that someone who could use a handy beer-related gift.

Beer Related Gift Available at LCBO

These bad boys are available at all LCBO’s in Ontario starting in November and they’re sold as gift packs (for $24.95 each) which include: your retro 13” wall or magnet mount retro bottle opener and two 34ml bottle of Steam Whistle Pilsner- all in one neatly packaged green box, ready for gift-giving. Of the package’s unique nature, Heaps says, “This holiday season, we wanted to give beer drinkers something they can keep within reach and use regularly. And, it’s a nice change from the common gift boxes of beer and glassware.”

In the spirit of gift-giving, the fine folks at Steam Whistle (whose beer comes in funky, signature glass green bottles), have offered up a bevy of brilliant recipes sure to trim your tree! From a Cheese Dip (made with the Pilsner of course) to Portuguese Style Rice and Shrimp, here are a few recipes to make your holiday gatherings all the merrier.

And if that wasn’t enough, just to make sure you’re nice and toasty, a Swiss-inspired Fondue recipe from Afrim Pristine of Toronto’s own Cheese Boutique rounds out the offerings for one and all. Happy Holidays to you and yours in advance!
